Dear Friend,

You are cordially invited to attend the 24th meeting of Nantucket Retina, which will be  held on Thursday and Friday, July 29 and 30, 2010, at the JARED COFFIN HOUSE. This meeting is intended to provide an informal forum for discussions between younger members of the retina community and senior retina specialists, joined by a select group of talented representatives from companies with vitreoretinal expertise.

In our continuing efforts to strive for the most active, open, and innovative exchange, the format of the meeting will provide for participants to present a ten-minute paper on an interesting aspect of retinal diseases. This may be original scientific work, a case report, experience with a new surgical technique or instrument, or even a straightforward thematic question of interest. We ask that every participant submit an abstract for presentation, and that everything, including all registrations, abstracts, extras, and all applicable fees must be received by June 15, 2010.

To register and submit your abstract, Click here.

We are pleased to announce that registration fees may now be paid via credit card (Visa and MasterCard only) online at the registration site, and we encourage you to do so rather than sending a check.

We will select most of but not all submitted abstracts, and then structure the program to provide plenty of time for lively discussion with each paper. Please feel free to contact us if you would like to have our thoughts about a topic you might present. Also, if you need to request a change in your already submitted registration numbers or abstract, please contact Judy, please do not resubmit your abstract or registration.

There will be a welcome reception on Wednesday evening, July 28 at the White Elephant. The Thursday and Friday meeting itself will be arranged with a morning schedule only, leaving the afternoons free for leisure activities. On Thursday, July 29, there will be an outdoor clambake, an informal family affair, and you may need a sweater or windbreaker. The location of this year's clambake is not yet final, but you will be notified. On Friday evening, we will have a cocktail reception followed by a dinner at a local restaurant  this will be a more formal event inappropriate for children.

In order to keep this meeting small and informal, participation is limited to 45 registrants. Each participant will be responsible for his own travel and accommodation expenses. For those that have not been to Nantucket Island during the summer, it is important to realize that our meeting will occur during the peak season. As this is an excellent family vacation area, with many fine beaches, restaurants, etc, it is particularly important that housing and travel reservations be made as soon as possible.

We hope you will consider staying at the Jared Coffin House, (1-800-ISLANDS) located in the very heart of Nantucket. A number of rooms have been secured at the House at very favorable rates, and staying there will enhance the feeling of community at our meeting. Most things in Nantucket are at a convenient bicycling distance. Car, jeep, and bicycle rentals are easily available, and taxis are also plentiful. Car rental is probably not necessary unless one wishes to roam to the more distant beaches on the island.

Nantucket is most pleasantly reached by air. It is also possible to travel from Hyannis or Woods Hole to Nantucket by ferry (both car ferry and passenger ferry only), but automobile reservations on the Steamship Authority Ferry need to be booked well in advance (Now!). (http://web2.steamshipauthority.com/ssa/)

As we wish to keep this meeting limited to 45 participants, it is important that you registration, abstract, and fees be completed by June 15, 2010, in order to offer space to other interested retinal specialists. As in past years, the registration fee will include participation in the reception, meeting and clambake for the registrant. The welcome reception is included for all at no fee. Supplemental arrangements for spouses/children/guests for the clambake, and for all participants at the Friday dinner party, are listed on the registration form.

We look forward to seeing you in Nantucket.

Sincerely yours,
Donald J. D'Amico, M.D.
